Springfield House Family Practice

Clinics

Our team of practice nurses can offer the following services:

New Patient Check

All patients over the age of ten wishing to register should attend for a check-up in the nurses' clinic.

Hypertension (High Blood Pressure)

The nurses in this clinic will check your blood levels and blood pressure and give lifestyle advice as necessary to help in the detection and management of this widespread condition.

Diabetic Clinic

Our nurses will advise on the management, lifestyle and diet of all diabetics. Annual review appointments are made through reception for a fasting blood test and then a week later a diabetic review with the practice nurse. We also have appointments available on a Thursday morning with a diabetes podiatrist.

Respiratory Medicine Clinic

This clinic is for patients of all ages who have asthma or COPD. The nurse will advise on inhaler technique, preventing problems and medication.

Travel Advice

The nurses are happy to give patients travel advice on vaccinations and other health requirements for foreign travel. The first stage of this is to collect a form from reception and fill in all relevant details before handing it back. The nurses will then ring you to make an appointment. Please note that for some courses of treatment to be effective they need to be started several weeks before travel – please, where possible, collect the forms in advance.

Well Women Clinic

The nurse can advise about breast examinations, teach you how to be 'breast aware' and carry out smears on symptom-free women, but if you feel you have symptoms which might need investigation, it is better to make an appointment with the doctor. Ladies who are due a routine smear will be invited to make an appointment in the nurses' clinic.

Flu And Pneumococcal Vaccination

In the autumn we run a vaccination clinic for all those entitled to a free flu/pneumonia jab (currently patients aged 65 or over, patients with chronic diseases and carers).

Children’s Vaccinations And Immunisations

These routine procedures are carried out on Tuesday (9.00am - 12 noon) mornings. Appointments will be sent from the health authority. A health visitor is also available at this time for advice and for babies to be weighed.

Smoking Cessation

Our nurses offer a service of support and advice on giving up smoking to patients of all ages.
